The True Meaning of A Motherly Instinct

Becoming a mother is a beautiful gift.  It’s one of the best gifts you’ll ever receive. Your love and attachment will always be present.  Unconditional love is priceless.

If you’re here and wondering what is the true meaning of a motherly instinct, I am here happily to explain.

What does Motherly Mean?

There are so many outlooks and opinions on the meaning of a motherly instinct.  For example, you just laid your baby down for a nap, and minutes later you believe you hear your baby crying.  Next, you go to check on your baby and he/she is sound asleep.  So you return back to your recliner.  While you’re sitting watching Law and Order, you hear the sound of your baby crying for the second time.  You go to check.  However, your baby isn’t crying but you can tell he/she will be waking soon by the movements of his/her little body.  So, what was that sound you heard that made you go check on your baby?  That was your amazing internal friend that never leads you wrong. Motherly Instinct is her name!  Someone that is so dear to your heart will forever be on your mind.  You will have a natural urge to love, protect and nurture your baby.

As the word motherly alone sounds so heartwarming the definition definitely will give you the same feeling. Motherly is a nurturing mother figure who also has characteristics as a protector and provider to a child.

The Meaning of Instinct?

Have you ever felt like your body was giving you signs and you reacted to those signs?  Or do you remember ever telling yourself, “I have a bad feeling about this”? That feeling is your instinct.  Your instinct is an impulsive reaction to a thought, feeling, another action or sound.

Your instinct is amazing.  You have an internal friend that has your best interest at heart.  I have yet to collect data that defines your instinct as your enemy.  Or an instinct that will lead you to do wrong.  For some strange helpful reasons your instinct always leads you to do something needed.  As you may have already heard, “Trust Your Instinct”. Your motherly instincts are very similar to that feeling.

Yes! Now the big question:

What is a motherly instinct?

First, brainstorm and ask yourself that question. Take a minute and define your perspective of a motherly instinct.  I bet we have a very similar perspective!

Motherly Instinct

First-time moms tend to take a path going strictly by the book.  For example, you prefer to wait until your little one turns six months old before offering baby food.  Or you may prefer,  by your preference, to use Pampers diapers instead of Huggies.  Your outlook may even reflect your cultural belief.   However, whatever you decide has only one outlook.  That outlook means one thing and that is you want the best for your baby.  You have already been planning and preparing for your little one.  You have already decided on the brand Pampers and selected your baby’s bottle type.  You already have the best option readily available for your little one.   So, what is the true meaning of a motherly instinct?

Motherly Instinct

Do all Moms have a Motherly Instinct?

I want to say yes, but then I would be telling you a lie. I can say I wish because all children deserve a mom with a loving motherly instinct.  A mother that will love, protect and nurture them.  However, there are many things that can alter your motherly instinct.  So the answer is “no”.  All moms do not come with a motherly instinct and the number one alteration to its absence in unhealthy habits.

Don’t Fight Your Battles Alone

If you are worried prior, during, or after receiving your precious gift, speak with someone.  A friend, family member and always included a medical professional that will give you guidance.

In Conclusion

On your journey as a mom, you will love, protect, nurture, learn and become responsible for someone other than yourself.

Your experience in life, as a child growing up or your needs,  wants and desires can impact your motherhood journey.  For example, your experiences in life can show you how to love,  because you never knew true love.  This is something you desire and will love to share.  Another example is wanting your child or children to have the things you never had.  Not the materialistic things but the things you can cherish forever.  Like love, memories, communication, your presence and happiness.

Your love is wanted and needed for your child to grow and develop.  If in doubt you feel the opposite initially or unexpectedly seek the assistant of your provider.
